The Rett Syndrome Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization intensely focused on the development of treatments and cures for Rett Syndrome and related MECP2 disorders.

My sister's son, Jackson, was born with MECP2 Duplication Syndrome. It is a form of Rett Syndrome that occurs almost exclusively in males. Most boys with this condition have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. My nephew will celebrate his 10th birthday on November 5th, but he does not understand the concept of birthdays or presents, he is unable to walk or talk; he cannot eat on his own; he is also prone to respiratory infections and suffers from several seizure disorders. There are only 1000 cases of this in the world. Half of the boys with this disorder will not live past the age of 25.
